For Long Lake Council
Platform and Priorities
Citizen Focus and Input: Long Lake is a diverse community with many voices. My focus will be to keep citizens informed on all matters at all times. I welcome citizen input to help map out Long Lake's future. I will continue to encourage respectful treatment of our residents at city meetings and also provide open forums for the community to participate in the discussion on important topics.
Taxes & Affordability: We need to stay focused on responsible use of our tax payer dollars. Investment in our infrastructure, equipment, and staff requires a vision for the future.
Process & Financial Oversight: I will make sure that Long Lake uses all available resources to enhance citizen quality of life including all aspects of spending controls, public safety, park improvements, and will continue to prioritize neighborhood needs such as roads and utilities maintenance.
Safety: We have been blessed with the amazing Long Lake Fire Department that has faithfully served our community for over one hundred years. They currently provide fantastic service to Long Lake, Minnetonka Beach, the majority of Orono, and parts of Medina. I recently defended the LLFD performance with a fact based analysis that can be viewed in this video. I will continue to fight to maintain this gem in our community with a vision to partner with neighboring communities that share in the vision for best practices and cooperation in safety services.
Who We Are
I was born and raised in small town Alburnett, Iowa and was fortunate to have a solid community and a wonderful public school where my dad taught social studies, coached & drove the bus, and my mom worked down the road at our local bank. I met my lovely bride, Rachel, our first year at Luther College. We got married shortly after graduating and just celebrated our 25th anniversary this summer. After graduate school at the California Institute of Technology and the birth of our first child in Los Angeles, we moved to Minnesota seeking family proximity, outstanding public school systems, and a community to raise our growing family. We settled in Plymouth in 2004, but in 2017 the small-town feel was calling us and we relocated to nearby Long Lake.
Rachel is a part-time psychiatric R.N. at Regions Hospital and a full-time operational manager of our active home life. I am a mathematician and software developer for a financial firm in Plymouth. Another hat I wear is that of a youth athletics coach. In addition, we are both actively involved in various ministries and service through our home church of 15 years, Plymouth Covenant Church (PCC), where my wife recently finished her final term on the Shepherd Team and I currently serve on the safety ministries team. A special recent highlight for our family was a mission trip through our church with our good friends Boni and Sandy that run Light of Hope Kenya for orphan girls near Naivasha. We were able to help with numerous task at the school including technology enhancements. Our family was also blessed to participate in the rescue of Susan and her story can be viewed in this video link.
Our oldest son, Valen, is 20 years old and heading into his junior year in college with a strong interest in STEM. Our middle son, Tyse, is 17 years old and going into his senior year of high school and looking forward to more snow this year for snowboarding. Our baby girl, Siri, is 15 and is going into sophomore year. She recently got her driving permit and is demonstrating her stellar driving skills in the middle school parking lot. When she isn't logging driving hours she loves to swim. Kuno (our Boxane rescue) and Luma (our Siberian cat) make up our four-legged house mates.
Thank you for your consideration of allowing me to continue to serve you and this wonderful community of Long Lake.
